Overview
The programme at a glance
Grenada grants citizenship for a contribution to its National Transformation Fund, from USD 235,000, or for a share in an approved real-estate project held for five years.
It is the Caribbean programme with a US investor treaty. That matters to anyone planning a US business, though a passport obtained through the programme does not open it straight away.
Benefits
What it offers, and what to weigh
Advantages
- The only one of the five Caribbean programmes whose country is on the US list of investor-treaty partners.
- No residence requirement in force today.
- The fund contribution covers the main applicant and up to three dependants.
Worth knowing
- The US E-2 visa needs three years living in Grenada first for anyone whose nationality came through investment.
- A 30-day presence rule is legislated and could start once the regional regulator operates.
Travel and the passport
Grenadian passports travel visa-free for short Schengen stays and need only an electronic travel authorisation for the UK, each read from the official visa lists.
Eligibility
Who can apply
The main applicant must be at least 18, in good health, and able to fund the investment from a legal source. The government refuses anyone who:
- gives false information on the application
- has a conviction anywhere for an offence that would carry more than six months' imprisonment in Grenada, unless pardoned
- is under criminal investigation
- is considered a potential national security risk to Grenada or any other country
- is involved in activity likely to bring Grenada into disrepute
- was refused a visa by a country Grenada has visa-free travel with, and has not since obtained one
No nationality is named as barred on the official page, checked 4 October 2026.
Family
Who can be included
Spouse, children, parents and siblings can be included
A spouse, children, parents and siblings can join the application. The base contribution covers up to three dependants; each further dependant adds to the cost, which your agent will set out.
Process
How the application runs
Applications run through two kinds of agent, in five stages. The agency gives 60 business days to approval, subject to due diligence and the funds arriving. Under the NTF route you can apply for citizenship straight away, or take permanent residence first and apply for citizenship later.
Choose an authorised international marketing agent, who works with a licensed local agent. Applications cannot go to the Citizenship by Investment Committee directly.
Prepare the forms, a medical examination and supporting documents, in English and legalised. A real-estate purchase is reserved through a sale and purchase agreement.
The local agent files the application with the Committee's Executive Office and handles all correspondence. There is a mandatory interview.
The government runs a due diligence background check; the Committee recommends and the Minister of Citizenship decides.
On approval you pay the contribution or complete the property purchase. Once payment is proved, the Committee issues the certificate of registration and the agent applies for your passport.
UAE residents: print the document checklist before your consultation.
The E-2 route to the United States
Grenada's investor treaty with the United States has been in force since 3 March 1989, which makes its citizens eligible for the E-2 treaty investor visa: the right to live in the US to develop and direct a business they have put substantial capital into. There is no fixed minimum investment.
The catch is a 2022 change to US law: someone who acquired the nationality “through a financial investment” must first have been domiciled in Grenada for at least three continuous years.

Questions people ask
Do I have to live in Grenada?
No residence requirement is in force. A rule of 30 days in the first five years after citizenship has been legislated, but the agency has deferred it until the regional regulator is operating.
Does a Grenada passport let me apply for a US E-2 visa straight away?
Not if the nationality came through investment. Since 23 December 2022, US law requires a person who acquired treaty nationality through a financial investment, and has not held E status before, to have been domiciled in Grenada for at least three continuous years before applying.
Is there an interview?
Yes. The main applicant, spouse, any sponsor and dependants aged 17 and over are interviewed, currently online.
